Level III Fieldwork 
  • The Center for Head Injury Services (CHIS) and Washington University School of Medicine, Program in Occupational Therapy, St. Louis, MO
    • Dates: October 1, 2007- December 21, 2007
    • Clinical Instructor:  Peggy Barco, OTR/L, BSW
    • Practice Areas:  Fieldwork projects focused in the area of brain injury recovery were completed within a community-based, multi-service organization for survivors of brain injury (The Center for Head Injury Services [CHIS]), as well as an academic research setting (Washington University Program in Occupational Therapy).  Projects included clinical research with a team investigating medical fitness to drive in persons with dementia and stroke, program planning for departments at CHIS, teaching adolescents and youth about brain injury at a community neuroscience workshop, educating a school district on reintegration of students with traumatic brain injury in a formal seminar, and attendance at conferences relevant to head injury.

    • Practice Areas:  Community-based, multi-service organization that serves survivors of brain injury as they transition to everyday life following inpatient hospital services.  Fieldwork placement was in the medical and outpatient rehabilitation department which served clients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, anoxic brain injury, aneurysm, brain tumors, bacterial meningitis, familial seizure disorder, and any other cerebral trauma.
  • The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis (TRISL), St. Louis, MO
    • Dates:  May 22, 2006 - August 11, 2006
    • Clinical Instructors:  Kristie Porter, OT/R, Robin Foster, OTR/L
    • Practice Areas:  Inpatient rehabilitation on the spinal cord injury and orthopaedics unit for adult and older adult populations.  Patient diagnoses included spinal cord injury (paraplegia, quadriplegia), total joint replacements, fractures, deconditioning, multiple sclerosis, amputation, multi-trauma, scoliosis, lumbar and thoracic surgeries, cancer.

    • Practice Areas:  Inpatient rehabilitation on the comprehensive services unit which served adult and older adult populations with stroke, orthopaedic diagnoses, multiple sclerosis, COPD, and other physical dysfunction.
