Program Development and Planning
1. Supporting School Reintegration for Adolescents with Traumatic Brain Injury:
A Program Model, Fall 2007. Developed a written proposal for a community-based program to facilitate school re-entry
for adolescents with recent traumatic brain injury; Proposal submitted to the Administrative Director of Medical
Services at the Center for Head Injury Services in St. Louis, MO.
2. Enabling Participation in Older Adults with Stroke: An Occupational Performance Model,
Spring 2007. Developed a model of practice for occupational therapy for older adults with stroke; Model proposes
a shift in stroke rehabilitation from impairment to everyday life and describes a top-down, occupation-based
approach to intervention.
3. Pi Theta Education Programming, Fall 2006 - Spring 2007. Co-organizer of
education events for Washington University Occupational Therapy students including speakers on aquatic therapy, vision technology,
and a student fieldwork panel; Also co-organized anatomy help sessions for 1st-year OT students.
4. Improving Handwriting Ability in Children with Developmental Dyspraxia: A Program Based on
the Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) Approach, Spring 2006. Developed
a written plan for a potential school-based program to improve handwriting skills in children with
decreased motor coordination; Program emphasizes a group intervention using cognitive strategies identified in the CO-OP
approach.
5. Holistic Environmental Assessment for Return to Home (HEARTH), Spring 2006.
Collaborated with classmates to write a business plan for a potential clinical program; Program emphasized the transition
to home following inpatient services and evaluation of patients' need for home modifications to improve quality
of life.
6. Backpack Awareness Day, Fall 2005: Developed a backpack awareness
program for fifth graders at Sappington Elementary School in St. Louis, Missouri. The program emphasized AOTA guidelines
and included a mini-presentation and a "weigh-in" of fifth graders and their backpacks. Preparations for the event included
establishing a relationship with the school, conducting research to determine the needs of the population, creating
a budget, purchasing equipment, and recruiting and training volunteers.
7. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention for Homeless Women: A Focus
on Sexual Health, Summer 2005. Developed a written plan for a potential program for homeless women seeking
temporary shelter at the Shalom House in St. Louis, Missouri; Based on a primary and secondary needs assessment and addressed
safe sexual practices and ways to minimize the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
